304L stainless hollow bar (EN 1.4307 / AISI 304L) is an austenitic stainless steel product commonly used for radially machined components where a bore is required. Hollow bar is an efficient alternative to machining from solid bar, helping reduce machining time, minimise material wastage and improve overall cost-effectiveness for many turned parts.

Overview
304L stainless hollow bar is typically selected when you need the corrosion resistance and fabrication performance of 304L, combined with the practical benefits of a pre-formed internal diameter. It is widely used across general engineering and manufacturing, and it is also suitable for many processing and hygiene-focused environments. In many cases, choosing hollow bar instead of solid bar can reduce the amount of material removed during machining, which can shorten cycle times and lower scrap.

Key benefits

  • More efficient than solid bar for components that require a bore
  • Reduces machining requirements and material waste
  • Good general corrosion resistance for typical engineering environments
  • 304L is well-suited to welded fabrication where required

Machining and fabrication notes
304L is the low-carbon version of 304 and is commonly preferred for welded components because it helps reduce the risk of sensitisation in certain welding conditions. It is non-magnetic in the annealed condition, although it may become slightly magnetic after cold work. As an austenitic stainless steel, 304L cannot be hardened by heat treatment, but it can be strengthened through cold working.

Typical applications
304L / 1.4307 stainless hollow bar is commonly used for bushings, sleeves, spacers, collars, rings and other radially machined components. It is used across sectors, including general engineering, automotive, agriculture, food, chemical, pharmaceutical and medical applications, depending on the operating environment and finishing requirements.
