316Ti Stainless Steel Bar (1.4571)

1.4571 is a weldable austenitic stainless steel comparable to 316L which is the low carbon equivalent of 316. Titanium is added to the chemical composition of 1.4571 to act as a stabilizer that increases the resistance to intergranular corrosion of the material when the material is exposed to prolonged periods of elevated temperatures.

Care must be taken when welding 1.4571 to avoid heating the material adjacent to the weld area above 2100°F as when the material starts to cool down to below 1500°F, intergranular corrosion will develop.

The alloy has an FCC crystalline structure at all temperatures so therefore cannot be hardened by heat treatment. In the annealed condition, the material is non-magnetic. Main uses for 1.4571 are in the oil and gas industry where exposure to elevated temperatures in aqueous corrosion conditions can occur.

Used extensively across all industries including marine, medical, architectural, pharmaceutical, chemical, food, oil & gas, brewing, textile among others.

316Ti stainless steel bar (EN 1.4571 / AISI 316Ti) is a titanium-stabilised austenitic stainless steel designed to improve resistance to intergranular corrosion, particularly after exposure to elevated temperatures. It is closely related to 316 / 316L, with the addition of titanium helping to stabilise the alloy structure for applications involving higher operating temperatures or certain welding conditions.

Overview
1.4571 stainless bar is commonly specified where the corrosion resistance of 316 is required, but with added protection against sensitisation and intergranular corrosion in temperature-exposed service. Like other austenitic grades, 316Ti stainless steel bar offers good general corrosion resistance and good pitting resistance in many environments. It is typically supplied as stainless steel round bar and hex bar for machined components and engineered parts.

Key benefits

  • Titanium stabilisation improves resistance to intergranular corrosion after high-temperature exposure
  • Good general corrosion resistance and pitting resistance
  • Suitable for elevated temperature service in many industrial environments
  • Good formability and weldability using appropriate procedures

Welding and fabrication notes
316Ti is generally considered weldable using common techniques. As with any stainless grade, correct welding procedures and heat input control are important to maintain corrosion performance. 316Ti cannot be hardened by heat treatment, but it can be strengthened through cold work. It is non-magnetic in the annealed condition, although it may become slightly magnetic after cold working.

Typical applications
316Ti / 1.4571 stainless steel bar is widely used in demanding industrial environments, including oil and gas, chemical processing and other applications where corrosion resistance is required alongside elevated temperature exposure. It is also used across sectors such as marine, medical, architectural, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, brewing and general engineering, depending on the operating environment and finishing requirements.
